observed I needed a new taillight bulb. replaced said bulb

Bulb was ~$2.50. Replacing it was annoying, you have to remove the taillight housing entirely. That’s dumb.

I’m tracking fuel usage/cost too, but that doesn’t feel relevant. Additionally, my father is in town (he was the one driving it in front of me) and hasn’t been tracking fuel usage/cost for the last month.

edit: the math says $7.99/day (plus fuel) to own the Corolla

I once test drove a used Impreza and observed during the test drive a little drawer (we dont call em ashtrays anymore right?) full of coins.

upon purchase... the drawer was empty! DUPED!!!

I forgot for a second that you live where I currently live and not where I used to live, where it would’ve made sense to have a drawer of coins for tollbooths even on a test drive.

(Also, I remember being ecstatic when I found out the tollbooths accept pennies because good god there is no other easy  way to get rid of them)

I’m going to go on a wild guess and say you used to live in NJ?

Nope, but I did work there on weekends with a music group. Richmond VA has a ton of 35-70 cent tolls separating where I used to live from where I used to work and it  felt like it took them forever to get a toll pass option installed.

Gotcha. I’m not too familiar with the tolls in VA, but I have family in NJ where they have automated coin-only tolls. I definitely remember panic throwing in fistfuls of pennies and nickles a couple of times before we got an ez-pass

Hah. Yes, I remember throwing fistfuls of dollars at the end of the NJ Turnpike back in the day. Never escaped anywhere up north with just coins. It used to cost $51 in tolls  round trip every weekend I drove to teach.

Ouch, that’s just painful. I’m really thankful to live somewhere I very rarely ever need to take a toll road
